In the mid-1960s, a young and promising conductor from Padua had the brilliant and far-sighted idea of opening the doors of musical matinees to the public, concerts in vogue in the salons of the 18th and 19th centuries, traditionally reserved for a small group of lovers of classical music and usually held during the day. They were born Like this “The Sunday Concerts” by I Solisti Veneti, orchestra founded just seven years earlier by Maestro Claudio ScimoneIt was a city earthquake! The targeted musical programs, the abandonment of tailcoats and the rigid formalities associated with cultural events, the lights turned on in the hall, the unusual start time, and the reduced ticket prices brought a new type of audience to the great Baroque, classical, and contemporary composers. Thanks also to the economic boom, residents of the suburbs, students, workers, entire families with grandparents and children could finally listen to the music of Vivaldi and Mozart live, feeling like protagonists, along with the musicians, of a special Sunday. And so it was that shortly after, due to insufficient capacity, the Oratorio di San Rocco, the first venue designated to host the event, was replaced by the Sala dei Giganti at the Liviano and, subsequently, by the new and even more spacious Auditorium Pollini.
Over the course of sixty years, the format has changed, gradually adapting to the needs and curiosities of the public, without ever losing the educational principles of "I Concerti della Domenica"Continuity confirmed also in the last seven years, thanks to the artistic direction of Maestro Giuliano Carella who, as Scimone's favorite student, attended many Sunday concerts of the "Solisti" before embarking on his own international career. And, always in the wake of accessibility left by Maestro Scimone, I Solisti Veneti have recently created the subscriptions linked to the event, thanks to which two of the six concerts are free.
This year, from October 19th to November 30th, The Solisti Veneti directed by Giuliano Carella bring to the stage of the Auditorium Pollini the 60th edition of “I Concerti della Domenica” composed of six important appointments.
