In the Vale of Tempe, crossed by the river Peneus in Thessaly, Olympian deities and nymphs celebrate the birth of Aurora, praising her characteristics with verses and songs that refer to rivers and flowers. The text – by an unknown author – alludes to a princely birth: probably that of Maria Theresa of Austria (1717), daughter of Charles VI, Emperor of Austria, and his wife Elisabeth-Christina of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.
