He graduated from the “Luigi Boccherini” Music Institute under the guidance of Maestro Grazzini with top marks, honors and a special mention from the Ministry of Education. He has been awarded in several national and international competitions. Since 1988 he has been First Double Bass and Solo Double Bass of I Solisti Veneti. As First Double Bass he has played with the Arturo Toscanini Orchestra of Emilia Romagna, the Tuscany Regional Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, I Virtuosi Italiani, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon, the Italian Chamber Orchestra of Salvatore Accardo, the Orchestra of the Teatro San Carlo of Naples. He has performed as a soloist in Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Philippines, Japan, Jordan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iceland, Israel, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Syria, United States, Thailand, Ukraine, Uruguay, Vietnam, Venezuela, Korea, and all European countries performing in more than 75 different nations and in front of many heads of state in over 2,500 concerts. He has performed in important concert halls such as the Schauspielehaus in Berlin, the Stefaniensaal in Graz, the Auditorium of Rice University in Houston, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Bunka Kaikan and Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Teresa Carrenho Theater in Caracas, the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Coliseo Theater in Buenos Aires, the Salle Pleyel and the Opera in Paris, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Felsenreitschule and Mozarteum in Salzburg. He performs chamber music in collaboration with famous musicians such as Tretiakov, Azzolini, Nannoni, Farulli, Postingel and is involved in various duo projects with the cellist Mario Brunello. He has made numerous radio and television recordings in Italy and abroad, and has also taken part in the recording of over 150 CDs. In 2002 he recorded for DAD records the complete Rossini Sonatas with the Rossini Quartet, and for Tactus a CD of works for double bass and piano in duo with the pianist Tiziano Mealli. Since 1989 he has combined his concert activity with teaching. He has taught at the Higher Institutes of Musical Studies “O.Vecchi-A. Tonelli” in Modena, “Lucio Campiani” in Mantua, “Giacomo Puccini” in La Spezia. He was the winner of the national competition for teachers in Italian Conservatories (first place in the ranking). He is currently Professor of Double Bass at the Royal College of Music in London and at the Higher Institute of Musical Studies “Luigi Boccherini” in Lucca, he is instructor for the University of Colorado Boulder Study Abroad Program, and is invited as a teacher by important musical institutions in Italy and abroad, including those for Musica Riva Festival, the University of New York, the Hochschule in Nuremberg, the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, the University of Oslo, Trinity Laban College in London, Wells Cathedral School in Wells, Purcell School in London, the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, HEM Geneva and Italian Switzerland, the University of Braga, the Jacob School of Music in Indiana, the Shenndoah University of Virginia, the University of Hattiesburg in Mississippi, the Juilliard School in New York. Since 2009 he has organized the Boccherini International Bass Fest at the ISSM “L. Boccherini” in Lucca, in 2016 he organized the RCM 2016 International Bass Fest at the Royal College of Music in London inviting world-famous soloists. In 2018 he was appointed Artistic Director of Bass Europe 2018 Lucca.
